Are you looking forward to summer? It’s especially nice to feel warm weather after there’s been a cold, wet winter and fall. June 21st is in the heart of summer and is also the year’s longest day. Do you have any special plans for the summer solstice? Maybe you want to take the kids to the beach?
Or maybe you’re planning to have a staycation at home. If you are planning to stay home, we have some budget-friendly ways that you can keep cool and have some fun, using your own outdoor plumbing. Read on to learn how a water day at home can turn into a blast for you and your family!
Set up a Sprinkler and Slide
Have kids? Then they’re going to love this idea. You can get an extra-large and long tarp, turn on your sprinklers, and put your tarp in their center so that the water is spraying on it.
Make sure you get the water going for a while so that the tarp isn’t hot and it’s nice and slippery. Then take turns letting your family members jumping onto the ‘slide.’
Everyone’s going to have a great time doing it and your grass is going to be watered at the same time, taking care of your weekend chores while you cool down and relax.
Use Hoses for Hose Fights or for Filling Water Pistols
Summer days are great days for having fights with your water hoses. But if you only have one or you want to conserve water, fill up some water pistols and squirt each other with the water instead.
You can find inexpensive water pistols in dollar stores, so you don’t have to spend a lot of money either. Have everyone get into their bathing suits, go outside in the yard and have at it.
Everyone will have a lot of fun! And if you do plan on using your hoses the entire time, make sure that your ponds and landscaping get some love too.
Fill Up Some Water Balloons
Just like wintertime isn’t winter without a snowball fight, summertime isn’t summer without a water balloon fight. These are another item that you can get at the dollar stores, so you don’t have to spend a lot of money with this summertime activity.
Set up some rules, especially if there are young children in the family, to ensure that everyone has fun, and nobody gets hurt. Then fill up the water balloons and have a water balloon fight. This is an activity that can be enjoyed by people of all ages and that will keep everyone nice and cool on a hot summer day.
When you are getting ready for your summer fun, make sure that you’re remembering to conserve water as best as you can. You can do this by using rainwater that you have collected. But let loose a bit on June 21st. After all, the longest day of summer only comes once per year and it’s a time to celebrate.
